“Taste of Malaysia Festival” promotes Malaysian cuisine in New Delhi

The High Commission of Malaysia and ITC Maurya Hotel, New Delhi, in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia presented Malaysian cuisine to the guests during the Taste of Malaysia Food & Culture Festival, held from September 22-26, 2019. The festival, held at The Pavilion Restaurant, ITC Maurya Hotel, showcased a diverse Malaysian dinner menu. This festival was organised to celebrate 62 years of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and India. Two chefs from Malaysia had specially been invited to New Delhi to prepare and create the authentic Malaysian food for this festival.

“We are very grateful as the cultural troupe from Sarawak Tourism Board will perform during this festival and they will showcase different forms of dance and play some traditional musical instruments,” said Dato’ Hidayat Abdul Hamid, high-commissioner of Malaysia to India.

“It is indeed a pleasure and honour for our hotel to host the food festival in association with the high commission of Malaysia. ITC Hotels believes in presenting the culture and ethos of a destination through culinary interpretation; a platform for cultural exchange through cuisine. I am sure the skilful Malaysian chefs are going to guide our Chefs at ITC Maurya in presenting authentic flavours from the heart of South East Asia to the heart of New Delhi,” said Benita Sharma, area manager, North Luxury Hotels and general manager, ITC Maurya Hotel.

Maldives gears up to market itself for MICE, cultural and sports tourism

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has revealed its efforts to enter MICE, cultural and sports tourism. In a press event held recently, the managing director of MMPRC Thoyyib Mohamed said the corporation believes it is time to diversify Maldives tourism to more niche markets.

“We have seen temporary efforts in marketing Maldives to several niche markets in the past; without a significant result. Therefore, I believe we need a good understanding of niche marketing and even better plans to achieve results. Now we are in the process of creating a marketing plan to reach several niche markets in a sustainable manner. They include MICE, Cultural and Sports Tourism. We are working with a consultant to formulate these strategies for the year 2020,” said Thoyyib Mohamed.

“It is in government’s best interest to promote the Local Island Tourism and that’s precisely what we have done. We have conducted fruitful marketing seminars for the local island tourism businesses. We have reduced the participation cost for the smaller businesses and even waived off some fees to encourage their participation,” added Mohamed.

Wallonia Tourism organises roadshow to strengthen market ties with India

Wallonia in India (AWEX Mumbai), consulate general of Belgium and Wallonia Belgium Tourism jointly organised a four city tourism roadshow starting from Delhi followed by Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad. The roadshow was held to further strengthen the ties with the Indian travel trade fraternity and to introduce some of the hidden gems of Belgium.

The Indian market has witnessed a considerable rise in the outbound luxury travel in recent years. The group is focusing on expanding and consolidating their ties with the luxury travel segment to reach out to a larger audience and gain a higher market share. The roadshow serves as a platform to increase brand awareness and gain new consumers. The event was organised in association with TAAI and TAFI. The event saw delegates arriving from Belgium to showcase their tourist destinations.

Tourism office of Spain in Mumbai appoints a new director

With effect from September 1, 2019, the Tourism office of Spain in Mumbai, India, has a new director, Elisa Robles-Fraga. She joined operation in this office on the said date and has commenced her position as the tourism counsellor and director of Tourism office of Spain in Mumbai.

Throughout her professional experience Elisa Robles-Fraga has been mainly working at the Spanish General Administration both at national and international levels, including European Union related matters. In a previous position as director general of the CDTI (Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial - Center for Industrial Technological Development), the Spanish Innovation Agency of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, Government of Spain, she has had the opportunity to bilaterally work with India for several of her projects during her tenure at CDTI. Her roles and responsibilities will remain the same as the previous directors of the said office.

Sochi Tourism in India appoints Linkin Reps as their PR representative

Zambia tourism minister dissolves its tourism agency to bring in new reforms

Tourism and arts minister of Zambia, Ronald Chitotela has dissolved the board of directors of the Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA) with immediate effect.

The minister thanked the Board led by Peter Jones for their service as the agency was disbanded. This move has been welcomed by various players in the sector as the minister is driving an agenda to vigorously promote Zambia’s Tourism.

Chitotela said the dissolution of the ZTA was meant to transform the tourism industry and market Zambia. “Our objective going forward is making the Ministry of Tourism a number one economic earner for this country. Therefore, I want to call upon the staff in the ministry of tourism to have a mindset change as we embark on marketing tourism in Zambia,” he said.

He further said the decision to dissolve the board was taken in the context of reforms the ministry had embarked on in ensuring that the promotion and marketing of tourism was taken to a higher level.

“Zambia has been elected as chair for Commission in Africa. This entails that Zambia will be responsible for the promotion of tourism in Africa for the next two years – this year until 2021. I want to invite my colleagues to join me in promoting tourism in Zambia and making sure that Zambia becomes choice number one for tourists,” said Chitotela.

Orlando gears up for Halloween with varied options for spooky celebrations

Halloween might just be Orlando’s favourite holiday, with a packed calendar of Halloween activities from August 16-November 2. With four spooky theme park events and 14 other experiences around town, Orlando beckons with world-class haunted houses, kid-friendly trick-or-treating, themed hotel packages, and even a new year-round “Halloween-themed” bar opening this month.
