Sartha Global Marketing retains Visit California account

Sartha Global Marketing LLP, a tourism marketing agency, has successfully retained the Visit California account. Sartha has been working for Visit California since 2010 and the renewed contract is for the next five years, with the mandate of delivering an integrated marketing campaign to maintain California as the premier destination, in the USA, for Indian travellers.

Visit California is a non-profit organisation with a mission to develop and maintain marketing programmes – in partnership with the state’s travel industry – that inspire travel to California.

As per Sheema Vohra, managing director, Sartha Global Marketing, “We have been privileged to work at promoting the Golden State of California, and are very excited to have a renewed mandate. California is known for its iconic gateway cities, but over the last decade, we have been able to introduce many more unique tourism destinations and attractions to Indian travellers. Direct IndiGo flights to start from Kolkata to Hanoi

Giving a special boost to tourism between India and Vietnam, a direct flight from Kolkata to Hanoi is set to start from October 3, according to Vietnam's Ambassador to India, Pham Sanh Chau.

"We, today, launched direct Indigo flights between Kolkata and Hanoi that will be starting from October 3, this year. We have also launched an online platform for Indian travellers to apply for a visa on arrival," the envoy said.

Pham also expressed his pleasure at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's win at the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, outlining the steps taken towards the further strengthening of India-Vietnam relations under Modi's leadership.

He also reaffirmed his country's support for India's permanent membership at the UN Security Council. Vietnam has expressed its commitment to fully support India's bid to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council. Previously also Vietnam has stated its support for India to become a UNSC permanent member once the council expands.

He further highlighted how President Ram Nath Kovind became one of the first leaders to address the Vietnamese Parliament during his visit to the nation around six months ago.

Calling Vietnam as “one of the most promising destinations”, IndiGo chief commercial officer William Boulter said, “For us it (Vietnam) is one of the undiscovered markets... Vietnam is certainly one of the most promising destinations that we have identified."

UNWTO and Barça Innovation Hub launch global sports tourism start-up competition

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in collaboration with Barça Innovation Hub (BIHUB) and with the support of the Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC) has announced the launch of 1st UNWTO Sports Tourism Start-up Competition. The initiative is designed to identify projects and innovations that can transform the sports tourism sector in the near future.

Increasing demand from tourists and the growing influence of sports on destinations’ popularity have combined to make sports tourism- a segment with potential for socio-economic development opportunities, attracting growing levels of government interest. The competition is looking for start-ups with disruptive ideas focused on solving real needs and addressing knowledge gaps in the growing sports tourism sector.

“We are pleased to be partnering with the Barça Innovation Hub to harness the potential of sports tourism to stimulate creativity, innovation and sustainable growth. Through this competition, start-ups with disruptive visions can propose new ideas that will allow the sports tourism sector to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals,” said UNWTO secretary-general Zurab Pololikashvili.

HE Akbar Al Baker, secretary-general of QNTC, commented, “At QNTC we believe sporting events have a unique power to bring people of the world together, and that is also why sports tourism is a key focus area in our tourism vision.”

The 43rd Annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks to ignite the NYC Skyline live

The American silver screen will set the scene for this year’s most spectacular Independence Day celebration, the 43rd Annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks. The nation’s largest Fourth of July event will make a return to the Brooklyn Bridge to present a display of light, sound, shape and colour, this year honouring classic American Cinema. On July 4 at approximately 9:20 PM, millions of spectators lining the waterways near the lower East River and millions more on television nationwide will be captivated by the display of patriotic firepower, as Macy’s Fireworks launch more than 70,000 shells and effects from the bridge and from four barges positioned along the shores of Pier 17 at the Seaport District.

“There is nothing more exciting on the 4th of July than gathering with friends and family to see a world-class fireworks spectacle, and this year’s Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks will deliver a jaw-dropping display that will be rumble in the imagination for years to come,” said Susan Tercero, executive producer of Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks. “With the iconic Brooklyn Bridge as our centerpiece and four barges lining the East River, we will launch an unprecedented barrage of colour, light, sounds and shapes that will delight millions as they hum along to a patriotic and stirring musical score celebrating our Independence and landmark cinematic achievements.”

Washington DC offers free things to do for Fourth of July celebration

Washington DC has got a series of free events lined up on July 4, for the Fourth of July celebration. You can witness fireworks display, catch an outdoor movie in one of DC’s scenic neighbourhood, enjoy live music at The Yards Park or travel back in time at the National Museum of Natural History's Hall of Fossils. People can also enjoy the Smithsonian Castle, groove to Jazz music or try yoga.

While the fireworks soaring over the National Mall will provide a colourful display, the live music at Capitol Riverfront will be a family-friendly event. You can get back into history with the new 31,000 square foot fossil hall with its exhibition that connects our planet’s very distant past to the present and future. Even the Smithsonian Castle will provide an enjoyable as well as educational adventure.

The Jazz in the Garden held on Fridays, in the National Gallery of Art’s Sculpture Garden, throughout the summer which began on May 17, provides the chance to be part of the seasonal tradition with great music and food and drinks offerings. Louvre Abu Dhabi announces four exhibitions for its coming season 'Changing Societies'

Louvre Abu Dhabi's 2019-20 season will launch in September and include four exhibitions to explore how the arts have channelled and acted as a witness to society throughout history, as well as have an accompanying programme that includes live performances, world-renowned installations, music, poetry and family events.

Commenting on the new season announcement, Manuel Rabaté, director of Louvre Abu Dhabi stated, "Our new and exciting season is designed to pioneer different ways to engage the museum's diverse audiences, offering them innovative experiences and a deeper understanding of the universal themes presented in our permanent galleries. Alitalia and Air Vistara enter into SPA agreement to boost connectivity from India

Alitalia & Air Vistara have entered into a new Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA) that offers travellers more connectivity and schedules across India. Customers can now book UK flights from various destinations in India to New Delhi (DEL), then connecting to Rome (FCO) and move onward to Alitalia Network.

The routes include flights between Delhi to Amritsar, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Varanasi, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Goa, Pune and Kochi.
