SOTC launches ‘Last Minute Deals’ for travellers

Qatar launches ‘Summer in Qatar’ programme

Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC) announced a summer programme that will include travel, retail and hospitality offers, as well as a packed entertainment agenda, from June 4 - August 16. With visa-free access to citizens of over 80 countries, this year’s ‘Summer in Qatar’ introduces a wide range of activities and experiences to suit all budgets. There will also be entertainment programmes featuring musical and comedy acts.

QNTC brings together partners from the public and private sectors, for a range of offerings across the country. With deep discounts and free activities, this ‘Summer in Qatar’ promises to keep things cool as the mercury rises.

HE Akbar Al Baker, secretary-general of Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC) and group CEO of Qatar Airways said, “This year’s summer season promises to put Qatar on the map as a destination for authentic experiences. Beginning in June and continuing till mid-August, this ‘Summer in Qatar’ allows visitors to participate in the festivities surrounding the two Eids – which bookend the season this year. Angry Birds themed park opens in Doha

The world’s first ANGRY BIRDS WORLD™ entertainment park welcomed guests at Doha Festival City on April 25 to the world-famous Angry Birds flock. Following the launch of its indoor section last year, the park extends same excitement to its outdoor section with new attractions like 42 metres high Super Slingshot, The Red’s House, Raft Battle, Angry Coaster and the park’s City Studio. It also has world’s first indoor and outdoor karting track and The Big Tree – a creative playground with edutainment activities. Visitors can also visit Trampoline Universe, enjoy an angry bird’s themed menu and get official merchandise from the retail stores across the site.

Ras Al Khaimah Tourism opens ‘Al Marjan Ramadan Tent’ to offer Iftar feast

Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) has announced the opening of ‘Al Marjan Ramadan Tent’ at Puro Café and Terrace on the Al Marjan Island. The custom-built rooftop tent will welcome guests throughout the holy month of Ramadan offering extensive daily Iftar and Suhoor.

With mesmerizing views of the Arabian Gulf, Al Marjan Ramadan Tent will offer visitors and residents a truly unique Iftar feast steeped in traditional Arabic flavours with a contemporary feel and ambience.

Marino Gherardi, director of operations at RAKTDA said, “Ramadan is a special time of the year when friends and families gather to experience the spirit of Ramadan. The authentic Iftars and Suhoor offering at the Puro Ramadan Rooftop Tent will provide an essence of togetherness while offering the finest Arabian hospitality that Ras Al Khaimah is known for. We look forward to welcoming guests from all over the UAE to enjoy the true spirit of Ramadan.” Open throughout Ramadan, Iftar will be served daily from sunset until 8:30 pm.

Scoot launches Trivandrum-Singapore flights

Scoot, a subsidy of Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group, has started its daily Trivandrum-Singapore operations from May 7. The inaugural flight took off from Singapore with a 180-seater Airbus A320 at around 8:40 pm local time and reached Trivandrum International Airport at approximately 10:00 pm local time.

The route had been transferred from sister airline SilkAir, and with the increased frequency offers customers more choices and greater convenience, as well as boosts Trivandrum’s connectivity with Singapore and the world.

Vinod Kannan, Scoot CCO, said, “The transfer of SilkAir’s services to Scoot is intended to further optimise the SIA Group’s resources and present a better match of capacity to demand. Scoot is well-poised to provide competitive pricing for quality services that will appeal to customers in Trivandrum, thereby strengthening Scoot’s presence in the India market.”

Johanes Ong, Scoot , general manager, India ,said, “Singapore is one of the preferred destinations for Indians, for business and leisure tourism, and this new route will definitely strengthen the connectivity between both countries. Customers from Trivandrum can connect to nearly 60 destinations on Scoot’s network, including in countries such as Singapore, Australia, Thailand, Indonesia, China, Greece, Germany and more.

Orange County welcomes 50 million visitors in 2018

The Orange County Visitors Association (OCVA) announced that Orange County welcomed a record-breaking 50.16 million visitors in 2018 according to a preliminary report on visitation. This tremendous milestone brought with it impressive visitor spending of more than USD 13 billion county-wide. The 50+ million visitor achievement reflects a 1.6 pc increase in visitation over 2017 figures.

“Orange County is such a unique destination. From gorgeous beaches and world-famous attractions to extraordinary shopping and dining to luxurious hotels and the largest Convention Center on the West Coast – Orange County really does have something for every traveller,” said Jay Burress, chairman of OCVA. “We are thrilled about reaching this historic milestone of 50+ million visitors, but what’s especially exciting is that it translates directly to the creation of more jobs and more economic opportunity for Orange County.”

The study found that tourism sustained over 179,000 jobs in 2017, making tourism the 7th largest employer in Orange County. Since 2010, the growth of tourism-related employment has outpaced overall job growth in Orange County and in California.

Lisa Bartlett, chairwoman of the Orange County Board of supervisors said, “The County of Orange is proud of the role we play in welcoming these visitors by providing wonderful parks and beaches, the unparalleled Dana Point Harbor and customer-favorite John Wayne Airport.”
