Travel technology to be the focus at ITB 2019

First ITB Virtual Reality (VR) Lab at ITB, the world’s leading travel trade show, going to be held from March 6 -9 2019, will highlight the prospects for VR and AR in tourism and offer an insight into the latest technologies and projects for boosting tourism sales. Visitors can also explore ITB Berlin with Pokémon GO. With Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) visitors can get an almost lifelike impression of local surroundings before they actually go on holiday. With VR goggles they can take a virtual tour of a hotel room, enjoy 360-degree views walking around New York, or go on a computer-animated tour of a cruise ship.

Besides escalating over-tourism conflicts and the impending climate catastrophe, changing transportation systems and the shift in customer demands will be the key topics at ITB. Also visitors interested in travel technology can find out more in the exclusive area featuring new technologies, digital marketing and social media, the eTravel World. The second edition of the Berlin Travel Festival takes place at Arena Berlin, from March 8-10, 2019, with its motto ‘Travel Different’.

More than 180 countries and regions, numerous stage events and activities, and cultures from around the world will offer a foretaste of the best time of the year. India among the top five source markets for UAE, says ATM research

The UAE is set to welcome 8.92 million visitors from the top five source markets by 2023, according to research by Arabian Travel Market (ATM).

According to data published ahead of ATM, which takes place at Dubai World Trade Centre from April 28 to May 1, 2019, Expo 2020 and its legacy, District 2020, is expected to have a positive long-term influence on the growth of inbound arrivals to the UAE from the country’s top five source markets between 2018 and 2023.

Looking at the country’s top three source markets, the number of Indian visitors travelling to the UAE will increase at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of seven percent to 3.01 million in 2023, while arrivals from Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom, UK, will witness an increase of two percent and one percent to 1.76 million and 1.28 million respectively over the same period.

While the UAE’s top source market rankings are expected to remain mostly unchanged post-Expo 2020 – the latest research from Colliers International, in partnership with ATM, reveals the Russian and Chinese source markets will show above average annual growth rates for inbound passenger arrivals.

India, Saudi Arabia and UK are the top UAE arrivals, while Russian and Chinese source markets lead comparative growth with Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 12 pc and 8 pc respectively

Danielle Curtis, exhibition director Middle East, Arabian Travel Market, said, "The number of Russian tourists travelling to the UAE will increase at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 12 pc to 1.6 million in 2023, while the number of Chinese tourists visiting the UAE will increase at a CAGR of eight percent to 1.27 million over the same period, according to the data."

JNTO organises Japan Travel seminar in New Delhi

International High speed Rail Association (IHRA) and Embassy of Japan in India in collaboration with Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), conducted a Japan Travel Seminar 2019 recently, The Shinkansen- Make your way through Japan with a high- speed train in New Delhi.

The key agents of New Delhi were invited to the event. The objective of the seminar was to introduce, promote Japan tourism in India and help Indian travellers know about the rich cultural heritage of the country and for travellers to explore it through the high-speed train.

The opening ceremony was kicked off by a welcome greeting by Masafumi Shukuri, chairman, IHRA; Kenko Sone, minister, embassy of Japan and Suman Billa, joint secretary, minister of Tourism, Government of India. This was followed by a brief presentation by Mamoru Kobori, executive vice- president, JNTO and Akihiko Tamura, former Japan Tourism Agency Commissioner.

“The Shinkansen, commonly known as high-speed train, is the safest and the most reliable mode of transport within Japan. The aim of the high-speed train is to shorten the time people spend on travelling from one destination to another. The high-speed train may change the way tourists travel, leaving more time for them to enjoy the destination. It plays a very prominent role in the country’s economy and lifestyle. Even India has decided to have its own high-speed rail between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, which will help us build a better relationship between the countries,” said Masafumi Shukuri, chairman, IHRA.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Warner Bros. World™ host apex body delegation

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi hosted 200 leading industry professionals from the prestigious International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) as part of the IAAPA Leadership Conference, which took place from February 26-28, 2019. The visit was successful in deepening delegates’ understanding of the parks offerings, while helping to cultivate long-lasting connections with industry veterans from across the world.

NYC & Company showcases its iconic tourism products for 2019 to India

NYC & Company, New York City’s official, destination marketing organisation, recently conducted an eight city India showcase to create awareness in the market about their upcoming iconic tourism products. The delegation, led by Fred Dixon, president & CEO, NYC & Company, presented a new global initiative—'2019: A Monumental Year’. The initiative highlights several iconic and large-scale openings and developments debuting in the city along with a historic anniversary that will make New York City a must-visit destination this year.

Some of the major new large-scale developments opening in New York City in 2019 include Hudson Yards on Manhattan’s far west side—the largest private real estate development in the history of the United States; The Shed, a multi-arts centre dedicated to global displays of visual art, design, media; and Vessel, a climbable urban landmark created by British designer Thomas Heatherwick. Fitness brand Equinox will also open its first hotel within Hudson Yards. 2019 will also see the opening of the new Statue of Liberty Museum, expected to debut in May and the opening of the TWA Hotel at JFK Airport in Queens. Additionally, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is undergoing a renovation and expansion that will increase gallery space by 30 pc and will enhance public spaces. The first phase of renovations is now complete and the next phase will be completed later this year.

In June, 2019, New York City will also welcome WorldPride, the first time the big event will be held in the United States, with three million expected over the 30-day event (the majority of events will be held June 25–30). The LGBTQ celebration coincides with the historic 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising.
