Tech Mahindra signs multi-year deal with Airbus for cabin, cargo design engineering

Information technology firm Tech Mahindra said it has signed a multi-year contract with Airbus for cabin and cargo design engineering.

"Tech Mahindra aims to capitalise on the specialised skills and competencies in growing cabin engineering business over the next few years. As air travel continues to surge worldwide, airlines are looking to deliver integrated comfortable and memorable, digital travel experiences through path-breaking 'Cabin Innovations'," the company said in a statement.

Airbus is a strategic customer and partner of the company, it added.

Karthikeyan Natarajan, global head of engineering and IoT at Tech Mahindra, said the partnership will strengthen the company's aerospace engineering portfolio, especially in areas like cabin engineering and customer services.

"It has been our constant endeavour to develop innovative engineering and digital solutions for our customers. This is a step towards further nurturing this key relationship and supporting Airbus in consolidating their global supplier base while driving business efficiencies and competencies in this process," he added.

As part of its TechMNxt charter, Tech Mahindra is betting big on next generation technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, internet of things, cybersecurity, robotics, automation, blockchain and 5G. No financial details of the partnership were disclosed.


WIN partners with Korea’s Hanwha to develop Cobots business in India

Wipro Infrastructure Engineering’s (WIN) Automation business unit has partnered with Korea-based Hanwha Robotics to develop Cobots Business in India. As part of the pact both the companies would explore synergies in research market intelligence to further improve Cobot technology, WIN said in a press release.

In 2017, Hanwha entered in Cobots Business with Hanwha Collaborative Robot (HCR) and the HCR series can be conveniently transported without forklifts and have simple user interface, unlike bulky and expensive robots used for heavy industrial purposes, said WIN.

Cobots are important part of industrial automation and WIN aims to strengthen that segment through this partnership. WIN’s Automation business unit, introduced in 2018, aims to grow big in system integration space in India and Asia.

“Robust and affordable Cobots like Hanwha help companies to automate the unsafe, mundane and routine process. Cobots are becoming the preferred platform for automation. Hanwha with its track record in high precision machinery, motion control, and software technology is an ideal partner in Cobots,” Pratik Kumar, chief executive officer, WIN, was quoted saying in the release.


Infosys announces strategic partnership with Toyota Material Handling Europe

IT major Infosys has entered into a long term strategic partnership with Toyota Material Handling Europe (TMHE).

As an IT services partner, Infosys will help TMHE in its digital transformation journey by facilitating transformation to a scalable digital hybrid cloud platform, providing application services, digital workplace, infrastructure management and a dedicated data centre operation.

The IT major will help drive innovation and optimisation agenda backed by Next Generation AI and automation solutions and deliver a future ready landscape for TMHE, the company said in a statement.

“We are delighted to be working with TMHE in their digital transformation journey. By offering end-to-end services leveraging our deep expertise in executing complex programs, we will assist TMHE modernize its legacy applications, bolster agility and drive efficiencies. The establishment of a data center to focus on TMHE’s needs is an integral part of our commitment to find unique solutions and models to drive operational excellence for our clients," Jasmeet Singh, executive vice president and global head of manufacturing, Infosys, said.


Tech Mahindra, K2View form strategic alliance to accelerate digital transformation for enterprises

HCL to hire over 3000 freshers for Noida campus

IT services major HCL Technologies on June 26 said it will offer more than 3,000 job opportunities to freshers at its Noida campus.

The company will organise a mega recruitment drive in Noida on July 6-7 for graduates and students who have completed their schooling.

"The company is offering over 3,000 job opportunities at its Noida campus. These include 2,000 graduates (engineers and non-engineers) and 1,000 Class XII completed students," HCL Technologies said in a statement.

The company said those selected will have to undergo a fee-based training on technical skills and post completion of training, they will be absorbed into HCL Technologies. This training will be provided by HCL Training and Staffing Services (HCL TSS), a subsidiary of HCL Technologies.

"HCL's mega recruitment drive is a great opportunity for freshers to start their IT careers with HCL...Like last year, we are hopeful that lot of relevant candidates will apply and benefit from HCL's mega recruitment drive," HCL Technologies executive vice president Sanjay Gupta said.


Google Maps launches stay safer feature in India

Google Maps on June 26 launched yet-another India-first “Stay Safer" feature for its users. The feature will alert and notify users travelling in taxis, auto-rickshaws when their vehicle goes off-route and also share the live status of their trips with friends/family. Indian users will be able to use the new feature on their Android phones with the latest version of Google Maps.

Announcing the feature, Amanda Bishop, product manager, Google Maps said, “Through our extensive research across India, we found that a lot of people limit their mobility due to safety-related concerns. To address this, we are launching another India-first feature that will deliver a more relevant and reliable experience to our users. Our new ‘Stay Safer’ feature on Google Maps will alert users who are travelling in taxis, auto-rickshaws etc. in case their vehicle goes off route, giving them peace of mind."

After searching for destination and getting directions, users can enable this experience by selecting the “Stay Safer" and “Get off-route alerts" option. If the driver deviates more than 0.5km from the Google Maps suggested route, the phone will buzz with a prominent notification, and users can tap it to see where they are compared to the original route. Then, users can also choose to share the live trip with friends and family directly from that screen so they know and can keep track of the journey.


St Xavier’s Mumbai signs MOU with TCS to launch Data Analytics course

St Xavier's College Mumbai has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TCS to launch a master's programme in Big Data Analytics. TCS will design, train faculty and implement the postgraduate course to match industry needs. This course, MSc in Big Data Analytics, will commence in July 2019. It will be held on the college's campus and administered by the college's IT and statistics department. Industry experts will also take lectures.

The course will be open to students having a graduation degree in IT, Computer Science, Computer Applications, Statistics and Mathematics. It will be offered as a full-time four semester course, inclusive of a 20-week hands-on intensive internship in the industry. On successful completion of the programme, candidates will be absorbed into the industry by TCS and other IT companies. TCS has started similar programmes with four colleges in other states. College principal Rajendra Shinde said there was a growing trend for jobs in big data analytics and the course will prepare students for rising needs of the industry.
